U.K. BIRTH, MARRIAGE & DEATH INDEXES

FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE MICROFILM & MICROFICHE NUMBERS

The attached files are intended as an aid to the family history researcher who is looking for England & Wales Civil records from July 1837 to December 1920.

It should be noted, before looking at any film, fiche or the Free BMD website, that the result of your search will only be an INDEX REFERENCE to the person you are looking for.  Using this index reference, it will cost you less to order a certificate from the G.R.O.

Having been compiled by a resident of Durban, South Africa, the column “Fiche Sequence”, if completed, refers to Microfiche in stock at the Durban Family History Centre.  Similarly, the column “MOC No.”, if completed, refers to the film number available for order ex Johannesburg.

To assist the researcher the column “FreeBMD %age” relates to the percentage of records captured at that date by the website FreeBMD (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com), and will be updated periodically.

If the FreeBMD column shows 100% complete for a specific quarter, then it is probable that you will not need to order the microfilm/microfiche as a search of the website database should find the Volume & Page number in the GRO Index, provided that you are searching in the correct quarter.  You can then order a certificate for your relative/subject.  Ordering of certificates can be done Online at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0, but it would be wise to first look at the GRO website (http://www.gro.gov.uk/).

N.B.  The site owners of FreeBMD do not guarantee that all entries have been transcribed even if a value of 100% is shown.  They also do not guarantee that there are no errors.
