SCHOOL BOY RUGBY - Memories of the 1960s

Many who grew up in East Griqualand excelled in sports in Natal teams
(one example being MARITZBURG COLLEGE).

One such player being Hugh Donald Brown descendant of early S E T T L E R S:

- WILLIAM MICHAEL TOLLNER (England) and MARY AGNES GIFFORD (Scotland)
- HENRY SHUTTLEWORTH and ELEANOR BUTLER (England)
- SAMUEL TAYLOR JAMES and ESTHER TROLLIP, JAMES WEEKS and MARIA ANN SHEPPERSON (1820 Settlers)
- THOMAS TATTERSAL FRYER (England) and CHARLOTTE RODWAY (Wales)

The five Maritzburg College rugby players who have been selected to play for Natal Schools against OFS tomorrow are shown with their coach, Mr 'Skonk' Nicholson. They are (left to right H Brown, P Theron, G Hathorn, I Moore and W Sharratt. It was the last practice before the big game, and Mr Nicholson concntrated on handling and passing.
