A Newsletter subscriber recently wrote:

"I have some beads which my grandfather picked up on the Wild Coast in the 20's or 30's. He called them Phoenician beads. They are lozenge shaped, drilled through, and look as though they are made of carnelian. I saw some similar ones in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford in the Minoan section. I have been told that the Minoans probably came originally from Canaan via Phoenicia to Crete."

Although all GENEALOGY WORLD information is easily accessible from the MAIN MENU - from time to time - we notice researchers being unaware of information we have available.

ROBIN's LISTS

Robin Griffiths has done a marvellous job of sharing any information he has available on his bookshelves with other researchers. A recent example of this is in the case of a lady who had been struggling to locate her ancestor in the Eastern Cape.

A search of the below item in Robin's Lists brought to light the very details this lady needed.

A LIST OF GERMAN SETTLERS WHO CAME TO SOUTH AFRICA VIA EAST LONDON IN 1858, 1877 and 1878.
Compiled from lists by Schnell, Pape and Spanuth.

In addition to the above German list, Robin also has available:

An Index to the Settlers listed in "Germans in Kaffraria". Published by JF Schwar and PE Pape, 1958. (Compiled by William Jervois.) Converted by Robin Griffiths.

A List of German Settlers who came to South Africa via East London in 1858, 1877 and 1878. Compiled from lists by Schnell, Pape and Spanuth.

German Legion Mercenaries - List

1858 German Settler families in the Eastern Cape and the States from which they came

1865-66 Germans naturalized in British Kaffraria (Transcribed by Anne Clarkson)

Reading ALL the other gems of information Robin has transcribed is a must!

Access ALL ITEMS from the Genealogy World Main Menu.

Kind regards,

Delyse Brown
