Whenever I inform you that 'Genealogy World' has new items available and you are unable to locate them, click the REFRESH button. I have had to do this as many as 5 times on some occasions before being able to view what I have recently uploaded to the Website!

The new items of Shipping this week are:
1846 and 1847,     early 1847,     and late 1847.
Rosemary Dixon-Smith asked me to point out to you that this is the first time that the 1840s Natal Passenger lists are made available online.

When she sent the 1840s shipping for inclusion, Rosemary remarked:
"And you can see why nobody else has tackled them! When they are all up, I think they deserve a mention in the newsletter, they really are a First for 'Genealogy World'.

I can tell you they are a difficult labour - but worth it in the end. Thank you Rosemary for your enthusiastic and untiring efforts.

1863 shipping lists this week include:
arrival of Medusa, Silvery Wave, Tirsah, departure of RMS Norman;
arrival of Maritzburg, departure of Dane.

Rosemary would like you to be aware that when looking at the Natal Passenger Lists, it is advisable in some cases to also check 'Of Maritime Interest' as sometimes there are additional details given about certain vessels e.g. the 'Silvery Wave' Passenger List and description of the voyage are both available.

Robin Griffiths has indexed 'Yesterdays, The Story of Richmond' by Alice Hope. If you would like Robin to do 'look-ups' for you, when you contact him, please quote the Title and Page Number that you are referring to, so that he can easily find the person required.

I am really pleased to say that MICHAELHOUSE and MARITZBURG COLLEGE have given permission for their details to be included in our Natal Schools project.

I have very fond memories of attending 'MacBeth' and 'Hamlet' at Michaelhouse - years ago when I was at school in Pietermaritzburg.

Working on the Maritzburg College details brought back a lot of memories for me. I can remember as a small child being intrigued by my father's Honour's Blazer, Cap and Scarf - which were in his wardrobe. He was a very keen rugby player. As I have two brothers who (like my father) also went to Maritzburg College and played in the First Rugby Team, I was brought up hearing names such as 'Skonk' Nicholson, Toffee Sharp etc.! As Nicholson has been a legend in his own time, I am sure the name is familiar to those of you who have taken an interest in schoolboy rugby over the years.

If anyone has a School they are particularly interested in (and can obtain the necessary contact details) please inform me; so that the School lists can be expanded further. I am aware that these lists comprise the ggg grandfather's of forthcoming youngsters and while we are able to locate them - should do so! We all are familiar with the feeling: 'if only someone had noted it all down!' So let us decide to make the decision to note it all down while we are able - for the benefit of those to come.

While on the subject of record keeping .. don't delay reading the July issue of the 'Diary of a Natal Mole'. I can't guarantee you won't tear your hair out after reading the NEWS ITEM of 17 July concerning the situation at Home Affairs!

A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: "That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen. Ugh!" The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: "The driver just insulted me!" The man says: "You go right up there and tell him off, go ahead, I'll hold your monkey for you."
