THE SCRIBE: This new entry is a 'must read'. Anyone having done even a moderate amount of research will relate to:
'My Ancestors appear to have lived and died by the following Rules'!

EAST GRIQUALAND: As a result of responding to e-mails requesting anything from old Farm Maps to typing out bits and pieces from the Kokstad Cemetery, and an assortment of other tasks connected to this area, I thought it would be lax of me not to include the area where I was born and went to junior school! On the right are some of those who farmed in the East Griqualand district. Anyone wishing to read their, and other stories of the early days, click on Family Chronicles (Main Menu, Free E-books).

ANGLO-ZULU WAR: Graham Mason has sent us two interesting articles this month: 'A Shared Birthday' and 'A Loss'. The photographs accompanying the latter article bring history alive.

NATAL PASSENGER LISTS: The new items of Shipping this week are:
Nov 17 1862 arrival of barque Rochester,
Jan 9 1862 arrival of barque D'Urban.

NATAL SCHOOLS PROJECT: St Charles College and Hilton College from the Pietermaritzburg area have given permission for their information to be included in our Natal Schools project. As you are all aware - the Family History Fair - being held in Durban on 24 September is approaching, we are fortunate to have an interested Archivist attending from Maritzburg College.

Although I am not known for my love of sport, having had a father and 2 brothers attend the School, I have many memories of attending rugby matches at Maritzburg College, as a girl. Therefore adding this particular school to our list reminded me of many Saturday afternoons. Skonk Nicholson being a name known to all. There is a tribute to this legendary rugby coach in the Maritzburg College section.

DIARY OF A NATAL MOLE: Rosemary educates and amuses us with her Diary each month. Don't forget to read her regular contributions. This Diary and the 'Genealogy World' Newsletter are regularly put into our Archives for readers to access who have recently joined us.

WEB SITE VISITORS WRITE: Peter Kirkham informs readers of the 'Prince Rupert V' sailing vessel launched in 1827.

At the Durban Family History Centre we are busily preparing for the below event. Jenny Harries has worked tirelessly to make this a great day. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

FAMILY HISTORY FAIR

Heritage Day 24 September 2005 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Family History Centre, Montgomery Lane, Off 144 Silverton Road, Berea, Durban ....... Free Entry

That's all for now,

Kind regards,

Delyse Brown
