Hello !*FIRST_NAME*!,

'Tis the season! Happy Holidays! Joy to the World! Okay, enough, but it's "that" time of year again, and we at Genealogy World are definitely getting into the Holiday spirit.

This year has gone by so swiftly it is difficult to believe that it is already time to wish you all a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR! Click here to download my very special Christmas card to you! Enjoy!

In the last Newsletter I mentioned Richard Crouch and Porteus Smith. I had quite a response to this small item! As I had nearly not mentioned these men at all, you have all taught me a lesson, that there is always someone looking for EVERY name and no matter how small the snippet of information might be - someone values it!

Therefore here is another one: In the 1885 Obituary of my great-grandfather, David Brown, George Peebles is mentioned. As you can imagine, trying to trace a name like David Brown (of whom there are millions) is difficult. So George Peebles has been a great help to me! Because the 2 men travelled to the Eastern Cape in 1861 together. They were both fron Scotland. So all I had to do was find a ship that had both men on it, to know that I had found 'MY' David Brown.

Because of the above Obituary, for some time I had been promising myself that I would collect up all the names of the settlers on the 1861 ship mentioned.

In addition, because the above David Brown later married Christina McKay, who had arrived with her parents and siblings to the Eastern Cape in 1859, I also collected the list of settlers on their ship.

If you have a settler who arrived at the Eastern Cape in 1859 or 1861 and have, so far, not been able to find the arrival, send me an e-mail and I will check my list for the name you are researching.

I have added the Map and Illustrations to MD Nash's...
'THE SETTLER HANDBOOK'
...section on Genealogy World. If you would like to see where your 1820 Settler family was allocated land, or the type of ship they travelled on.

As most people will be holidaying over the Festive Season, this will be the last Newsletter for 2004.

I shall look forward to collecting as much content for Genealogy World as possible in 2005 and adding it, for your use, as fast as possible.

See you all next month...

Kind regards,

Delyse Brown

P.S.
Following on from this newsletter my Webmaster will be mailing out brief 'what why and how' information with regard to compressing and de-compressing files, specifically relevant for anyone who regularly sends graphic images by e-mail - sort of an "everything you ever wanted to know about zipping but were too scared to ask your mother" !
