I feel that she needs much recognition and commendation for the contribution which she makes in assisting folk like myself to find our long lost loved ones.
No words can express my appreciation."
One of our subscribers has had great success in adding to his family tree after contacting www.genesreunited.co.uk
Those of you that read FAMILY TREE MAGAZINE will find information about this URL on Page 16 in the December 2006 issue.
Adrian Rowe draws our attention to the following:
BMD Transcriptions
The FreeBMD databases have recently added 4.6 million transcriptions to their online databases at www.freebmd.org.uk. Coverage is fairly near completion from 1837 to 1911 - the aim being to provide transcriptions up until 1983. Additional data for England and Wales includes 3,606,544 new births, 696,793 marriages and 381,650 new deaths.
Adrian Rowe states:
NATAL MARRIAGE INDEX PROJECT
Adrian Rowe reports that "Our small team, which now consists of only three people, Lyn Paul, Maureen Kruger and me, has worked hard during 2006 and with some earlier assistance from Ellen Stanton, Colleen Jacques and Shelagh Noble, has increased the database from 28, 680 marriages in December 2005 to 37,317 in November 2006, an increase of 8,637 marriages during the year. A sterling effort!! Unfortunately Ellen is no longer contributing towards the Natal marriage index and has moved on to other projects. It is thanks to her hard work that we started the N.M.I.P. To date, thanks to the database, we have managed to assist quite a number of people from various parts of the world with locating Natal marriages."
"Please look at the Genealogy World website and on the left hand menu scroll down to Natal - Marriages, where you will find an updated list of the Natal marriage films in stock at the Durban Family History Library and a summary of the progress being made with the transcriptions."
Adrian is again appealing for volunteers, who seem reluctant to come forward for this worthwhile project. He may be contacted on 031-7644721 a/h.
David Biggins writes that he has an Anglo-Boer War site at
www.angloboerwar.com
which holds information that may be of interest to GENEALOGY WORLD readers. His site currently has 2,700 pages and 1,300 photographs.
Good news for those who take an interest in the GRO Index of Births, Marriages and Deaths.
Lyn Paul draws our attention to the Dove Project:
The Dove Project will create a completely new GRO Index to replace the current one.
GRO Southport holds copies of the copy Certificates and these are being used to create a new Index. The opportunity is being taken to include the mother's maiden name in the Births Index, and the Spouse surname in the Marriage Index for ALL events from 1837 onwards. Projected availability date: 2008.
URL: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/news/Dove_contract_signed.asp
Lyn also informs us of the partial release of limited information before 1st January 1912 concerning the 1911 UK Census.
