Dear !*SUBSCRIBER*!,

GENEALOGY WORLD - NEW ITEMS :

NOTE:
Access ALL ITEMS from the Genealogy World Main Menu.

Thank you for your Festive greetings. Best wishes to all for 2010.
A special thank you has to be said to the many contributors who, year after year, generously give their time and effort to enable GENEALOGY WORLD to grow.

Rene Maia writes: "I have some photos of the Avis family born in Holland who went to South Africa should anyone be interested. If I am not mistaken the people I have married into the Boshoff family."

Mike Chemaly writes: " I have some information on the Shamley family. Who ever is interested can contact me."

ANNE's TRANSCRIPTIONS:
Anne Clarkson adds the following transcription to her lists:
Baptisms (in various places in the diocese where there were no registers) solemnized by the Lord Bishop of Cape Town and the Revd James Green, Clerk, Officiating Chaplain, in the year 1848 during Visitation
Baptisms extra-parochial solemnized on the Visitation Journey of the Lord Bishop of Cape Town in the year 1850
Cape Archives A1939 4/3.

1820 SETTLERS:
Sue Mackay transcribes an item from CO53/9 at the National Archives, Kew, London:
1850 Extracts from South African Commercial Advertiser.

NATAL MARRIAGE INDEX PROJECT:
Adrian Rowe updates the information regarding this very worthwhile and valuable project. Anyone with spare time might like to join the transcription team. If you should wish to do so please contact Adrian directly.

ROBIN's LISTS:
Robin Griffiths transcribes a list of long serving and well known Staff at Lovedale, Alice, compiled in 1955, but not necessarily including everyone. [List kindly supplied by Desmond McAllister.] Where possible Robin will provide more details on individuals if required.

From IHGS newsletter
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
The official website has now added search options which make the resource easier to search, including County of Origin and Occupation. If you have tried before unsuccessfully do make use of the opportunity to try again - the site is free of charge, complete for all 32 counties and incredibly valuable.
Irish Land Files to be Shredded
It has been reported in the Irish Times that the Property Registration Authority is to cause thousands of these documents (recording all relevant details to the ownership of a folio of land) to be destroyed - some of them more than 100 years old. 150, 000- 200, 000 have already gone, and advising staff shredding them to ‘keep their eye out’ for interesting documents is completely insufficient. All historians know that original records should always be regarded as sacrosanct and must be preserved, even when they are digitised. That this has been permitted is shocking, particularly in light of the 1922 fire.

BRICK WALL and MISSING PERSONS:
A reminder to check these pages from time to time in case you are able to help other researchers.
