This month those interested in the Anglo-Boer War will find 'Natal Mounted Rifles - Besieged in Ladysmith" and 'Border Mounted Rifles' added to this section by Rosemary Dixon-Smith.
You will find two new items submitted by Becky Horne in 'Web Site Viewers Write'. The first being: 'Police Memorials'.
Knowing of my interest, my father having been a sheep farmer, Becky Horne has very kindly also submitted 'Sheep Farming'.
Becky tells us about merino farming:
Fine-wool farming was introduced by the Settlers DANIELL and WHITE, and was the forerunner of Uitenhage's present woolwashing industry. There were at one stage 11 large woolwashiers lining the banks of the Zwartkops River.

This woman rushed to see her doctor, looking very much worried and all strung out. She rattles off: "Doctor, take a look at me. When I woke up this morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my hair all wiry and frazzled up, my skin was all wrinkled and pasty, my eyes were bloodshot and bugging out, and I had this corpse-like look on my face! What's WRONG with me, Doctor?" The doctor looks her over for a couple of minutes, then calmly says: "Well, I can tell you that there ain't nothing wrong with your eyesight...."
