Hello !*FIRST_NAME*!,
'GENEALOGY WORLD' - NEW ITEMS :
Index on right hand side of page.
The Newsletter of The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies states:
Identity & Passport Service and the GRO
"Now that the latter is part of the former, the Home Office is hoping to improve service and security since registration of life events and data sharing in fraud prevention will be integrated. The parts which are transferring include maintaining a central record of registration data and selling copies of certificates as well as overseeing and carrying out civil registration. The process of obtaining certificates remains the same, but some of us have noticed some deterioration in service which we hope is merely due to teething troubles."

ROBIN's LISTS:
We thank the family of the late Mrs Clarry Watters for giving permission to publish the index of spouses and others mentioned in her book
'The "German Settler" Peinke Family in South Africa' by CM Watters,
edited by her son Professor Brian R Watters, published in 2000.
The index was compiled by Robin Griffiths.
ANGLO-BOER WAR:
Keiron Spires states:
"I am currently researching my PhD on Nursing in the Boer War. As part of my research I have transcribed the medal rolls held in The National Archives at Kew and they now are online as a searchable database. I have also transcribed the Princess Christian's nominal roll and that is there as well. I am working on an extract of the shipping lists plus a list of all awards (RRC and MiD). I also have census information from the UK military hospitals during this period.
I have rebuilt my website as a moodle site. This means that there are forums for you to exchange information, and that it can be generally more interactive than my old one. I am planning a gallery of photographs once I can get the correct permissions in place for some of them.
You will find general information about nursing during this time, and I am also writing an article about resources for finding information.
I hope that you will revisit the site, and that if you find it useful you will create an account on the site so I can keep in touch as more information comes to light.

Although all GENEALOGY WORLD information is easily accessible from the MAIN MENU - from time to time - we notice researchers being unaware of information we have available.
NATAL MARRIAGE INDEX PROJECT
The NMIP is continuing at a reasonable pace, but unfortunately owing to ongoing negotiations between the Genealogical Society of Utah and the South African Department of Home Affairs to obtain an extended agreement of usage, the project leader, Adrian Rowe, has been instructed by GSU to cease offering to do look-ups and printing of Natal marriage certificates.
The Indexes are however available for the use of patrons at the Durban Family History Centre.
At a recent ceremony in early July 2008, Lyn Paul, the NMIP's star transcriber, was presented with a letter of appreciation by Ray Holder, a Councillor of the Durban, South Africa, Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Jenny Harries, director of the Durban Family History Centre, on behalf of the GSU. Lyn, who has been assisting the transcription project since December 2005, is currently transcribing in excess of 6,500 names each month. This is a tremendous effort considering many of the names are difficult to read and are representative of all the local race groups. [See Photographs]
The Index contains a total of 134,640 names at the end of June 2008, relating to Natal marriages between 1845 and 1924.
The Indexing team has increased, but volunteers are still needed.
(Please contact the project leader, Adrian, on 031-7644721 a/h or at
NMIP Indexing Team).
As we now have the films in digital format, Indexing may be done at home, provided you have a little spare time, a computer and software which can open digital images and MS EXCEL.
Access ALL ITEMS from the Genealogy World Main Menu.
Kind regards,
Delyse Brown
