QUESTIONS and ANSWERS:
Alison Hunt asks about finding an Anglo-Boer War Australian Nurse. The reply will be of interest to many who struggle to find information.
NATAL SCHOOLS:
Robin Griffiths has now added Maritzburg College - Part 3 - to the growing list of names of former pupils. This segment covers the years: 1931-1945.
BRITISH SETTLERS:
Ellen Stanton has kindly sent us a list of British Settler names she has transcribed. The Settlers arrived in the Cape in the 1850s and 1860s. If you have not yet been able to find an elusive ancestor you might be fortunate enough to find your family member in this list. As it is very long, please scroll to end.
OF MARITIME INTEREST:
It is always interesting to find the connection between families in different countries. Pamela Kirkham has kindly allowed us to include her family history which connects Natal with Australia in the 1850s. You will enjoy reading:
The Kirkham Family Natal and Australia.
There is also a new article written by Rosemary Dixon-Smith:
"Ships called Natal".
BRICK WALL:
There are several new requests for information added to this section this month. If you would like to add your need for further information, please send details.
THE SCRIBE:
"She was Poor but she was Honest" is a new poem Rosemary has sent us for 'The Scribe'.
INTERNATIONAL: UK Births, Marriages and Deaths Indexes
Adrian Rowe has added a new section to 'Genealogy World'. These lists are intended as an aid to the family history researcher who is looking for England and Wales Civil records from July 1837 to December 1920.
GRO Births, Marriages and Death Indexes - all available now.
EAST GRIQUALAND:
A new item of Mount Frere news is included. Time period: 1870s ! Considering it is only a short piece - several names of interest to researchers are mentioned.
FAMILY CHRONICLES:
I would like to point out that when researching - in order to track down ancestors - one inevitably learns about the ancestors of others! The new Webster article is a typical example of this. ANN WEBSTER, was my grandmother Charlotte Ann Fryer's grandmother. This article about the Webster family includes names such as Shaw, McKay, McGregor, Fryer etc.
FREE E-BOOKS:
You will remember that I recommended anyone wishing to write (even a brief account) read: 'THE DAYS THAT COUNT' by Henry Dorning (Family Chronicles). Because of technical problems - I have now made it possible to read this article without having to download it. If any of you experience difficulty downloading the e-books, please let me know. I intend to make them all easily available.

NATAL MARRIAGES:
As reported previously, Adrian Rowe, is working on a Natal Marriages project. He reports that he now has 3 volunteers to assist with this work. He would be very pleased to have more help. If you are prepared to assist, Adrian will be very pleased to hear from you. You can contact him on 031-764-4721 (after hours).
DIARY OF A NATAL MOLE
Monthly Diary - written by Rosemary Dixon-Smith
Don't forget your date each month with the Mole! Rosemary tells of her activities. As she is a professional researcher much can be gleaned from her genealogical comments.
That's all for now,
Kind regards,
Delyse Brown
