Hello !*FIRST_NAME*!,
'GENEALOGY WORLD' - NEW ITEMS :
Index on right hand side of page.
TNA are on track to put the 1911 Census online in 2012 as planned. Census returns are released only after 100 years to protect the personal information disclosed.
The 1911 Census is over 12 times the size of that in 1901, dealing with 35 million people over 35 000 volumes. The records are in good condition and suitable for scanning. TNA are currently in consultation with several companies to see which is best suited for carrying out the task.
One of our GENEALOGY WORLD newsletter readers came across this interesting website about the 2001 UK census
http://www.taliesin-arlein.net/names/search.php
He tells me that apparently Brown is the 5th most common name in England, with 291 872 in 2001 and over a million since surnames began!
Perhaps you would like to check your own surname.

OF SA MARITIME INTEREST:
Jennifer Southorn has sent us a very interesting account:
William Lister's Voyage to South Africa in 1850.
If only all our ancestors had left us written accounts of their experiences such as this!
Jennifer requests information via BRICK WALL, and she states:
"I would hope to generate a response from other people with an interest in William Lister's family and would be happy to exchange information."
Perhaps those of you with any information might like to write so that I can forward your e-mails to Jennifer.

Rowena tells me that this brings the total number of records she has transcribed to 1,077!
The files of the Boer War service records from Rowena are transforming our Anglo-Boer War pages into an incredibly valuable resource. Prior to Rowena's transcription work, the only way family historians could acquire such information was by a personal visit to Kew, or by delegating to a UK researcher. Since we have nothing comparable in South Africa, to have these lists online at a touch of the mouse is nothing short of miraculous. People tend to take such offerings for granted.
I say: WELL DONE, AND THANK YOU, ROWENA!
Kind regards,
Delyse Brown
