LADYSMITH CEMETERY PROJECT The Ladysmith Siege Museum Trust, a small volunteer organization, has started researching the historical town cemetery. Thousands of entries have been captured using old burial records, information on headstones and other documents in the Siege Museum. The cemetery is a very interesting mixture of civilian graves and also military graves from the Anglo Zulu War, the Anglo Boer War, (Siege of Ladysmith), Bambatha Rebellion, and the two World Wars and is a poignant window on the past. Once the research phase has been completed refurbishing of the old cemetery and restoration of a select number of graves are planned. The Siege Museum Trust also holds a large volume of interesting family histories of pioneer families of this region compiled in the 1970's.
The final phase of the project will be publicising the research findings in hard copy and/or CD ROM. Ladysmith Cemetery also known as Bell Spruit Cemetery Kwazulu-Natal
The memorial inscription of Mrs Struben's tombstone was the first to be refurbished by the Ladysmith Cemetery Project, and is also one of the oldest surviving tombstones
