PASSENGERS BY CAPE STEAMERS

The Rev. G. S. Flack, late vicar of St. Clement Dane, Strand, W.C., who is going on a visit to Natal with his brother, Mr. T. S. Flack, is a passenger by this week’s mail steamer, as is also Dr. Roderick Macdonald, M.P. for Ross and Cromartie, and coroner ofr North-east Middlesex, who with his wife is going to spend the Witsuntide recess at Lisbon. Next week’s mail boat takes Mrs. LeSage (wife of Mr. John M. Le Sage, of the Daily Telegraph), Mr. Lewis Atkinson, the diamond expert, and Mr. Thomas Booth to Cape Town. Dr. and Mrs. Egan, of King William’s Town, will return to South Africa in the R.M.S. Mexican, leaving Southampton on the 29th inst. The same packet will convey Mr. Paul de Villiers to Cape Town, Mr. Arthur E. Sutton and family and Miss Dumbleton to Mossel Bay, and a party of German missionaries to Quilimane. The Rev. and Mrs. A. Harcourt Vernon and family will proceed to Cape Town by the R.M.S. Roslin Castle, leaving Dartmouth on the 5th prox.

A Pretoria cabman has been fined £5 for calling the President “Oom Paul.” An appeal was noted. It was believed the President will remit the fine.

At the Kimberley Synagogue recently, the Rev. H. Isaacs officiating, there was celebrated what is described as “a pretty Jewish wedding,” the occasion being the marriage of Mr. Barnett Cohen, of London, and Miss Jane Cohen, daughter of Mr. S. Cohen. Mr. L. Cohen, brother of the bridegroom, acted as groomsman. The bride was given away by her father. She was attired in most becoming bridal costume, made of a rich broche silk for the bodice and train, with a very fine white more silk skirt; the whole was most elaborately trimmed with pearls, Spanish lace, and orange blossoms. The four bridesmaids were:--Misses Gertrude, Kate, Clara, and Isabel Cohen, sisters of the bride. The two first bridesmaids wore costumes of grey merveilleux, trimmed with cream broche. The other two had dresses of crushed strawberry and cream cashmere. Masters Theodore Guites and Samuel Cohen acted as train-bearers to the bride, who was also attended by her three pretty little nieces, charmingly dressed as flower girls.

Ellen Stanton
