MARIANHILL MONASTERY

MARIANHILL MONASTERY was founded by Prior (later Abbott) Francis Pfanner and his group of Trappist monks in 1882. Though the Trappist Order no longer exists at Marianhill and Pfanner himself died 100 years ago (1909), his spirit continues as a source of inspiration to the local community and beyond. The monastery remains as a monument to his vision.

The Latin text over the gateway to Marianhill Monastery reads:
'ORA ET LABORA': 'Pray and Work', the motto of St. Benedict.
