SALT ON THE SAILS: Book Launch to be held on 31 October 2008 17h30 for 18h00 at Trafalgar Room, Royal Natal Yacht Club, Yacht Mole, Durban. 'Salt on the Sails': the ideal Christmas gift for sailing enthusiasts, lovers of South African history, and collectors of Africana. A passion for boats and boating led to the formation of the Durban Regatta Club in 1858, just 23 years after the fledgling township of D'Urban was established on the eastern shores of southern Africa. In 1891 the club was granted a Royal Charter and became the Royal Natal Yacht Club. In 2008, club members celebrated 150 years of recreational and competitive sailing, including competing in various Olympic and world championship events. Lavishly illustrated, 'Salt on the Sails: 150 Years of the Royal Natal Yacht Club' tells the story of Africa's oldest sports club, its famous members and boats, its place in the history of South African yachting and the mark it has left on Durban, the city from which it sprang.
