DESERTERS: NATAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE SEPTEMBER 1864

Report of two Deserters from the Cape Mounted Riflemen, dated at Fort Napier this 19th day of September 1864.

No. 229, Private Samuel DIDCOTT 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches in height, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, deserted 14th September 1864 from Fort Napier, Pietermaritzburg, enlisted 6th October 1857 at Liverpool, Parish and County of Gloucester, thin face and sickly appearance, by trade a saddler, had on stable jacket and regimental trowsers.

No 249, Shoeing-smith, John DIXON, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches in height, dark complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, deserted 14th September 1864 from Fort Napier Pietermaritzburg, enlisted 10th September 1857 at Newcastle on Tyne, Parish and County of York, marks of smallpox upon face, by trade a shoeing-smith, had on stable jacket and regimental trowsers.

The usual reward for apprehension.
