![]() DISCOVER DURBAN'S WHALING HISTORY The old whaling station still lies on the Bluff Headlands, within the military base, and today it is one of the few symbols that reminds us of the whaling that took place off the coast of Durban years ago. A five hour tour includes one of the largest private collections of pictures, articles of interest, memorabilia, newspaper clippings and old footage of the actual Durban whaling operation. Visit the old whaling factory station in the company of past employees. Refreshment and a meal are served at Chicken Shack Café.

WHALE OF A MUSEUM OPENS ON BLUFF The museum displays a vast range of pieces from whale teeth, whale ribs, a harpoon gun casing, old photos, newspaper clippings, a flensing knife and an old compass from a whaling boat. Visit the museum at 41 Old Mission Road, Bluff, opposite the Bayview Sports Club. The connection between Durban and whaling is a huge topic starting in 1909 and ending in 1975. Not only did it have an influence on Norwegian settlers, but also on the residents of the Bluff and Durban and on the maritime industry. Whaling Industry Durban
